  • Pedical Togamae Before we futher blame gov't..how many of us actually pay albums/ songs from our producers other than downloading from internet, flash drive or bluetooth...cos this are da very actions we the public denies our artists...
  • Jamin Ramo Is there any copy right law??? if not we need impose,,,,,,,to avoid any kaen olobaot reproduction and dwn load.
  • Michael Teobasi Not that I know alot in this area, but would like to make some constructive ideas nomoa, 1. I would like to also support the idea that we have a very weak music federation executive body, the way I see it for the past 20 years now, and it's been mentioned above already by someone SF I think, if are a member of the music federation executive body then you have to be neutral body for this thing to work, you cannot have a band or own musical instruments, or kind type blo umi wea u part lo organise event so 50% cut blo u lo there too, 1 day event ba cost $90,000SBD for the whole setup ba costim Gavman $400.000.00SBD na and this is just for 1 day event, ma kind ya na music blo umi no savve kasem any thing good lo hem ya then umi everyone ask question why na ya??. 2. We need good lawyers to tackle this legal (piracy) issue head on with all business houses, radio station, TV station, web, etc. 3. Have proper recording deals/contract with all registered recording studios (legally bind the studio and the artists) 4. Have proper promotion agency offices to promote recording studio labels and artist/musician overseas, that way all overseas interested party will have to sign a contract deal with the local promotion agent here and the SI Gov get get their share, I don't know 10/20%. All I'm saying is that if we make things right from the top everything below will just fall in place, for start we do have a SI Music Federation or what? From there with the right people and right mind set, every question blo umi musician blo Solomon Islands can be answered nomoa ya.... well I could go on but I might waste alot of time on this so I should stop here and listen lo ufala otherwise wea garem staka idea lo there still for torowe kam yet ba...
  • Pedical Togamae so one way to help artists is NOT to share songs over internet, bluetooth, download from PC to laptop etc...JUST Pay from the original producers n don't share even ur close friend ask for it...
  • Samson Faisi Thats very tru MT... All the ideas n tots. dat u hev shared with us are some of the vital missing links in our music industry. Hw umi sawe start somewhere n organisim umi gut moa anytime soon? Hw na ufala fil ota felo musicians etc?

  • Michael Teobasi Samson Faisi I strongly believe that we desprately need a new executive body for the music industry, only then we can get sort through this mess, if music federation been active in the right way none of this would have happen nomoa ya, we are very small popullation, and very easy for policing nomoa ya, now when everything is computerised, and with every recorded album databased, very easy to tally and traced back to copyright and distribution, recording, promotion, broadcasting, downloading, can be controlled nomoa ya.... the right governing body for the whole thing is the right people sitting in the office blo music federation (and mas savve wat oketa duim too)....brada SF I'm up for the challenge ya just need you to point us right my bro...hihi... good night me go silip na !
  • Bigbang Hitz In Port Moresby tonight TV Program, these musicians from Solo interview with two host of the program at sunset lodge resort. But time kasem there..flag blo solo coverm everyone na.. i think we need a new election for music fed executive asap. And if the current ones feel they are powerless, no hide but mekem election for musicians can choose their next Leaders.. We are waiting for the election!!!!

  • Izzy Nori Bigbang Hitz is doing great in promoting our artist. I think government should support this group. I like how the director William sanga started the initiative from .ittle resources but with great passion and vision he has for music promotion..
  • Mack Faddean Aoraunisaka also our musicians must see themselves as commodity/product , by that I mean, keep yourself clean neat and tidy, no chew bettlenut, no smoke ( wait when you reach level blo the Marleys u can smoke on screen) no wear rascal kaleko , live up to latest fashion trend (at least attempt),, your image helps alot in marketing,,, companies ba like to use'm you in commercials,, remember big name in the industry not only make money from songs produce ya, but also from product endorsements,,, involve in community development programs make a name for yourself,,, produce songs and upload to youtube and other music sites, hopefully some labels might be interested in you or other artists might wanna collaborate,,, staka way for artists make money,,, as for intellectual property rights ?? well me no lawyer but I know iumi member blo WTO but no idea lo law blo iumi side lo protect'm ota artists blo iumi !!!! 10cent ting ting noma ,,,, btw ota local artists blo iumi tumasss na,,, I'm impressed to the power of infinity ,,
  • Sione Tuhaika Mack Faddean Aoraunisaka you raised some important points. But I think fans don't give a heck about how people look etc. PNG artists worst ... lukim go Sir George Telek hahaha. The events first site will be launched soon... slowly but surely!
  • Mack Faddean Aoraunisaka hahaha,, true bro Sione Tuhaika,, regional market iumi no care noma ba,,, you mean'm na kind rascal mentality ya,, hehe,, but I think to break out lo international scene nara story moa ya,,
  • Lil-law Cutt International market na Mack Faddean Aoraunisakameanim ya
  • Sione Tuhaika Wat oketa CHM duim long PNG hem good... produsim local music, den oketa increasim cost blong CD/Cassette mekem demand fo local music high. Hem cheaper fo u buyem foreign Music in PNG dan oketa local wans. Dat way demands fo local music high and that gives the artists/bands advantage over foreign music. Problem na, doki long CHM ya takes a huge portion of the sales livim oketa local artists/bands poor! So now, oketa FM long POM les fo promotim CHM music. I had a good talk with Uncle ET former NAO FM boss, mi bat sore long oketa local artist blong yumi wea CHM produsim ... CHM takes advantage of them.
  • Bigbang Hitz Solo Musicians and Events First Management Team with Mr William Soaki at the Solomon Islands Embassy in Papua New Guinea..
  • Sione Tuhaika International market hem very tough. Nidim gud promoters! Only album mi save oketa selem long Hawaii was Apprentice II but wanfala man onam studio long Manoa na selem. Mi no ting hem signim agreement witim Apprentice back den. Hem mas tekem from Mangrove but hem selem long site and internet. Other than that, mi no save eni Solo group beyond New Caledonia and PNG. Yumi nidim gud promoter long Aussy and NZ.
  • Solomon Maneoru @ST.. i think wat umi needim na great artists making great music..den ba umi no worrim promoters tumas naia...Record Labels and Artist managers
full time lo YouTube noma ia..Great Talents is the key.. so i guess musician should do their home work noma.. as me experiencem lo hia, our
artists are very lazy and they cannot perform to that level where ota artists lo USA and EUROPE are performing..

  • Solomon Maneoru The mentality is to think beyond Aussie n NZ .. but depends on individual dreams.. just encourage artists to dream big ..this will contribute alot to who they are as musicians.. social media such as YouTube n Facebook are still cheaper than running a website, n more reachable..even cheaper
    than having a promoter outside..

  • Sione Tuhaika A site where artists music can be downloaded is probably the best way to promote. Yes, thousands of followers on FB but they still looking for place to get the music (download). That's what the site is about... snail phase at the moment.
  • Solomon Maneoru CD baby , Tunecore ..those r sites that are available for Indies artists n Labels.. small fee noma n your songs will be on Itunes, Amazon, Emusic etc..
  • Sione Tuhaika Solo, you have to pay a fortune to sell on those sites. CD Baby is ridiculous... every other site, you mas garem credit cards to sell your stuff! Nothing is free on the cyberworld. Ebay - even if you no selem stuff, oketa still chargim yu. Amazon, you must garem UPC and all other stuff.
  • Bigbang Hitz Artists touring under Events First during their press conference in Port Moresby.

Thx everyone for the contributions and concerns lo solo music. To uncle JT, yes we are working on the content at the moment, conducting interviews and ready to write up. For that reason we have to reshedule our important events concentrate lo website first. We'll start sending materials as of next week.

Its true social media platforms is the way to go at this age but the website idea is different from the whole events and music competition here in the country. Our team finally agree to take a different approach in what we do and that is to reach deeper into our own people first. Copy of our reports have been filed in the Prime Ministers Office and our concerns have been also raised during our visit to Solo embassy in PNG. We are working on another 3 reports for the government which is not a matter of just saying it here but stored away in black and white with the gov't. It will be supported by our video documentary that is currently put together by Kundu TV, PNG.

However, this roadmap is not for our advantage but for all struggling musicians. Yes we have our own struggles too and with our recording studio up and running.. We'll be opening it up for free for our young people to learn and even produce. In addition, we have increased our events proposal for 2014 to help out in the development of our music.

What we charge as of now is promotions and mangement fees.. Production wise is free under our development projects and that is for both audio and video.

  • Michael Teobasi Protection/performance rights and touring/promotion are 2 different, can we go back on how to protect the musicians of this country so to build up a healthy music industry one that will help every local artist to shine, I think Bigbang Hitz is doing a great job, but I did mentioned above that they are only in the promotion and events agency, they alone cannot fix the messy SI Music Federation blo kandere..think big Solomon Islanders...umi garem talent ya no doubt but most of this will go to waste nomoa if backbone no straight....ufala moa stori kam !

Staka international copyright law solo save enforsim... Livim go long oketa lawyers.
  • Solomon Maneoru @ ST ..Anyway..we r talking about international market..Copy right Act hem stap finis..Gov passim lo 1996.. Song writers want to be protected outside the country save register with APRA ..but ba hem useless for lo country becos venues, nightclubs, radio stations n Tvs etc lo hia no payim licenses lo APRA for usim music registered under APRA..A big topic for talk aboutim lo FB.. encouragem ota song writers to join APRA..it's free and south Pacific is eligible.. In PNG only Yumi FM,NAO FM and Legend FM save payim na APRA's lincense ia.. APRA adminstrates performing Rights and has a sister Branch that deals with the Mechanical Rights (AMCOS).. and save protectim u worldwide noma naia..

  • Bigbang Hitz Thx for all the comments and concerns. Having heard of APRA when started off learning from our music industry, me happen to come across and later learn more from their website. When browsing through their pages, SI music federation is part of that org as an affiliate group and partner. What comes to mind was, who na doim this connection? asking around, i heard people assuming it was during Mr Placid Walekwate's move during his time as music fed president and if am right, that was when Timo Seda and him represent solo in one of the expo in Aussie.

Based on observations,It happens that every time a good or bad person walked out from any organisation, everything fall apart and nothing remained as supporting resources to its constitution which was once a bible to everyone involved. Such a practice always our case and remain our problem over the years in every org which discourages growth and most of all, hopes of people down the line. What we need now is a change of attitude and consider connecting again with APRA not as individuals but as a group of musicians with common values and similar dreams and aspirations - through our music federation.

What happened to our Music Fed? After placid's term, he was replaced by a new executive. Me no clear lo reason why they need change but they did fight for it and eventually got the positions. According to some interviews, this group's term hem already over and musicians oketa wait for election kasem today. What we need now is for this people to come out clear lo public and conduct a new election for the good of the federation and our music.

Looking at the issue blo copyright, our music fed will be the right body to address it and made connections at a higher level and come up with projects that empower our musicians. We need to revive our music fed and its a challenge for all of us to do it.

  • Bigbang Hitz I wish to respond to question raised here. A contribution based on few years of interacting with our musicians. Here are some of my findings and forgive me if am wrong.

    1. what does the solomon islands music industry do to support local
    producers and artists?

    - Our music industry is very weak and problem na because our own people ota no support in a way of paym na products blo ota musicians. Considering sellim CD, this time every young people interest lo download and making it worst, bluetooth from one to another which fully supports the problem. At the moment, the industry gives little or nothing back to our musicians. Investment on both Govt and PRIVATE SECTOR LO INDUSTRY HEM NO STRONG which gives everyone little chances to make money. Our big opportunity was the arts festival but in the end every musicians ota no fully participate or even benefit from allocation for music.

    - musicians blo iumi but garem little access lo production facilities and opportunities for perform but low too.

    its obvious that
we have so many talented artists but
    theres no breakthrough into the
international scene and plus their products are not protected!!
    - i have a question, how can we reach the international level when even our own country, the support is very low? Appreciation lo talent isn't yet part of our vocabulary. Compare lo PNG, our musicians signed autographs.. If lo solo ya, by tingting ya come in naya..'you ya what tumas ya?'..if any singer lelebet sing style lo radio..by samfala say..'nafu, garem baon too'.. these are small comments but it comes out from the lack of appreciation lo ota intellectual properties blo country..We'll if kind small action and attitude osem nomoa hem common then how mas more financial support which we truely need for international scene.

    - going international requires big money and strong committments from our musicians. Budgets for such a move is very expensive and hard for one artist affordim seleva. we need recognition and the potential of musicians should be considered important.

what do you think are the ways to promote the
    music industry in solomon Island???

    Its a million dollar question..

Voting in new office bearers will not solve the problem but it's a good start.
